Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Must be a high school graduate or have earned a GED
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Must have been honorably discharged from service, if applicable

An applicant cannot be on probation for a criminal offense, or have been convicted at any time of a felony offense. The applicant must be of good moral character and have high personal integrity. An applicant’s background and character are investigated before being hired. Any convictions of a crime of domestic violence, including a plea resulting in probation, will result in disqualification from consideration.

Anyone who meets the qualifications above and is a U.S. citizen will be considered for employment, with Chickasaw preference. Non-citizens with permanent resident alien status, in accordance with the requirements of the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service, who have applied and are eligible for citizenship, may be considered for employment.

Applicant Process

The Lighthorse Police Department is selective when hiring new officers. After a rigorous testing program, candidates who demonstrate high moral character and the ability to serve the Chickasaw Nation with integrity will be chosen to serve as a Lighthorse police officer.

Applicants become eligible for appointment to the Lighthorse Police Department based on:

  • Meeting the minimum qualifications
  • Physical fitness assessment
  • Written examination
  • Background examination
  • Oral interviews
  • Psychological evaluation
  • Medical examination
