Election Office and Voter Registration

The Chickasaw Nation Election Office conducts all tribal elections, registers eligible Chickasaw citizens as voters and updates voter records. Required forms are available online and at the tribal government services building or any area office.

Modeled after the federal government, the Chickasaw Nation is a democratic republic. Registered voters elect a governor and lieutenant governor to four-year terms, 13 members to the tribal legislature and three justices to the tribal supreme court.

Every qualified citizen of the Chickasaw Nation 18 years of age or older is eligible to take part in tribal elections. The election of tribal leadership is an important decision. Voting is each citizen’s right and should not be taken for granted. You and your vote are essential to the future of the Chickasaw Nation.

Registration Close Date

Voter registration shall close three weeks prior to an election day and shall remain closed until election day or the run-off election day. Should voter registration closing fall on a federal or tribal holiday, voter registration shall close on the first working day following the holiday. See the Tribal Election Schedule for this year’s dates.

After voter registration is closed, all voter applications, address change forms and deceased notices are saved until voter registration reopens. Once voter registration is open, all saved applications and forms are processed.

Change of Address

Chickasaw citizens who have relocated should update their address. Current addresses must be on file to receive a voting ballot during tribal election periods. For address updates, fill out the change of address form or call our toll-free number. Address change forms submitted during registration closure are saved, and the ballot will go to the address on file. When voter registration is closed, the mailing list is sent to be processed.
