Chickasaw Nation Department of Health (CNDH) facilities offer flu shots at all clinic locations in Ada, Ardmore, Purcell and Tishomingo.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends everyone over 6 months old receive a flu vaccine each year and lists many benefits:
- Prevents millions of illnesses and flu-related doctor visits each year
- Reduces the risk of flu-associated hospitalization for children, adults and elders
- A preventive tool for those with chronic health conditions such as cancer, asthma, diabetes and COPD
- Helps protect women during and after pregnancy
- It can reduce the severity of illness in those who get vaccinated but still get sick
The colder temperatures encourage the spread of respiratory viruses such as the flu and COVID-19. The recently authorized bivalent COVID-19 booster from Pfizer is recommended for individuals ages 12 and older at least two months after the completion of the initial vaccine series or the most recent booster. The CNDH exclusively offers the Pfizer vaccine in all clinics.
The bivalent booster can be given safely at the same time as the flu shot. Both vaccines are available to all First Americans by appointment in primary care clinics.
