Program Details

Learn the Chickasaw language through an in-depth, immersive online experience.

Participants study the Chickasaw language in an online immersive environment Monday through Friday from 2-4 p.m. Central Daylight Time and receive compensation for up to 10 hours per week. The number of applicants selected is based on program availability.

The program is a year-long commitment. Upon completion, participants are expected to be, at minimum, able to speak about their biographical information, share common likes and dislikes and complete simple conversations in Chickasaw.

  1. Is the program available in person?
    This virtual program is strictly online. All language education classes are taught on Zoom. However, a two-year intensive language immersion program is also available in Ada, Oklahoma. More information about that program is available here.

    Participant groups are selected each year through the application period and begin work in October.
  4. What is the class size?
    Each class includes a learner group of 10, plus a second language conversational instructor.
  5. How are applicants admitted to the CAAIVP?
    Participants are selected through an application and interview process.
  6. Can I reapply if not selected?
    Yes, please submit a new application each year. Your application will not transfer from one application period to the next.
  7. Will I be a fluent speaker of Chickasaw at the end of the program?
    Students should reach a level of Novice Mid as defined by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages standards after one year in the program.
