High schoolers within the Chickasaw Nation are invited to participate in the 2026 Tobachi (to create) High School Art Competition.
Vicki Cowger, fine arts manager for the Chickasaw Nation Performing and Visual Arts Division, said art shows like this provide valuable opportunities for students.
“These events allow students to present their creativity beyond the classroom while also seeing what other high school artists are creating within the same guidelines and boundaries,” Cowger said.
All students in grades 9-12 residing within the Chickasaw Nation, including homeschoolers, are eligible. Chickasaw citizenship is not required.
Categories are drawing, painting, printmaking, digital art, photography, ceramics and diverse, which includes collage, mixed media and 3D sculpture. Three awards will be given for each category: $150 for first, $100 for second and $75 for third. A Best of Show prize of $300 will also be awarded.
Pieces can be submitted 8 a.m.-6 p.m., March 30-31, at the Chokma'si Gallery located at 201 N. Broadway in Ada, Oklahoma.
Artwork will remain on display and open to the public in the Chokma'si Gallery April 6-24. Regular hours for the gallery are 8 a.m.-5 p.m. A closing reception and awards ceremony will take place 5:30 p.m., April 24.
