Chickasaw citizens wanting to participate in the Chickasaw Nation Special Draw Hunts must have a valid Chickasaw hunting and fishing license, and apply by Sept. 15.
Director of Chickasaw Nation Fish and Wildlife Services Cody Dixon said hunts take place at Kullihoma, approximately 10 miles east of Ada, Oklahoma, just off State Highway 1E. Additional locations are in Bromide, in Johnston County, and Fittstown, in Pontotoc County.
“Hunters are limited to one deer, antlered or antlerless, during the special draw hunt,” Dixon said. “This bonus deer does not count toward the combined season limit.”
Those interested in being included in this year’s draw must complete a licensee permit request online at Chickasaw.net/Hunting.
Dixon said as the number of interested citizens has increased each year, implementing a draw system became necessary.
The main benefits of the draw system include hunter safety and sustainable wildlife management of the properties.
“It’s a two-deer seasonal limit for Kullihoma. If they were able to draw, let’s say muzzleloader and rifle entry, they would be able to kill two deer. Even if someone draws one hunt and gets one deer with a muzzleloader, they should come back and bow hunt, and still take another deer in archery season,” he said.
