Medical family therapy is a unique approach to overall health that addresses the biological, psychological, social, mental and spiritual health of patients and their families in a medical setting.

Chickasaw citizens or members of federally recognized tribes who are current patients of the Chickasaw Nation Department of Health and their family members.

Medical family therapy is a unique approach to overall health that addresses the biological, psychological, social and spiritual health of patients and their families in a medical setting. Medical family therapists provide patients with an opportunity to connect to resources that may aid in improving overall quality of life. The medical family therapist is part of the care team, which also includes medical providers, nursing staff and case managers.

Concerns that can be discussed with the medical family therapist include:

  • Anxiety

Medical family therapists are part of a treatment team in the healthcare setting. This team practices integrated care. Integrated care means the goal is to treat the overall health and well-being of the patient. The care team practicing integrated care may include the medical provider, nursing staff, case managers, psychiatrists, pharmacists and medical family therapists. These professionals work together to assist patients in reaching their physical and mental health goals.

Zero Suicide is a commitment to suicide prevention in health and behavioral health systems. It is both a concept and a practice being implemented by the Chickasaw Nation.
