The Chickasaw Historical Society was established by tribal law April 15, 1994. Since that time, the society and its members have worked toward their mission statement of promoting, preserving and protecting Chickasaw culture and family traditions. The Chickasaw community is of great importance to the historical society board of directors.

The Chickasaw Historical Society works to:
- Preserve and share Chickasaw history and culture through a biannual journal
- Encourage archival and museum donations
- Identify and mark locations of historical importance
- Provide members with networking opportunities, including an annual conference

This twice-yearly journal has featured hundreds of articles covering subjects from prehistory to modern-day events.
Chickasaw Historical Society Conference
The Chickasaw Historical Society Conference is an annual event encouraging cultural involvement and historical awareness. Through this conference, the Chickasaw Historical Society works to preserve, promote and protect Chickasaw history and culture.
Registration for the conference is included with Chickasaw Historical Society membership and starts at $35 for nonmembers. Conference registration includes one-year membership and access to the biannual Journal of Chickasaw History and Culture.
A members-only reception takes place the night before the conference. The conference follows the next day with themed discussions and presentations.
