In this time of an unprecedented health crisis, we are continuing to monitor the spread and effects of the coronavirus. The health and safety of Chickasaws, employees and our community is always our top priority. As this virus has spread to communities across Oklahoma, we are working diligently to make our facilities safe for all. The best way to limit exposure and contain the spread of COVID-19 is to avoid situations where people are gathered and for all to remain safe at home.
To continue to protect our youth, families and staff, all 2020 Chickasaw Nation camps, clinics and academies have been canceled.
Our executive department is continuously monitoring this unprecedented situation. Programs and services will be modified also as needed to safely serve our citizens. Visit Chickasaw.net/COVID19 for the most current information regarding closings, cancellations and program changes.
The Chickasaw Lighthorse Police Youth Academy provides an excellent opportunity for Native American youth to explore a career in law enforcement. Academy students will hear presentations from law enforcement personnel who understand the daily challenges faced within the tribal law enforcement community; and learn life skills such as teamwork, communication, safety and crime prevention.
At the academy, lessons cover a wide spectrum of law enforcement procedures and practices. Participants will be presented with opportunities ranging from the proper use of handcuffs to the safest way to conduct a traffic stop. Students will learn the challenges faced by law enforcement officers on a daily basis.
The camp is free. Forty Native American youth, ages 9 to 15, will be selected based on answers to the application questions and a complete application form, including all waiver forms.
