The Chickasaw Lighthorse Police youth academy provides an excellent opportunity for youth to explore a career in law enforcement. Youth will learn lessons covering a wide spectrum of procedures and practices.

Applicants must be a First American and 12-18 years of age.

Program Details

The Chickasaw Lighthorse Police Youth Academy provides an excellent opportunity for youth to explore a career in law enforcement. Academy students will hear presentations from active duty Lighthorse officers and personnel who understand the daily challenges faced within the tribal law enforcement community. Students will also learn life skills such as teamwork, communication, safety and crime prevention.

At the academy, lessons cover a wide spectrum of procedures and practices.

Participants will be presented with opportunities ranging from anti-bullying and basic lifesaving skills to forensic fingerprinting.

The camp is free. Twenty youth, ages 12 to 18, will be selected based on answers to the application questions and a complete application form, including all waiver forms.

Camp activities may include:
     - Defensive tactics
     - K-9 unit demonstration
     - Forensic fingerprinting
     - SWAT and dive team demonstrations
     - General safety awareness
     - Crime prevention

This is a day camp located in Ada, Oklahoma, at the Lighthorse Police Department.

Transportation is not provided.
