At Home in the Heartland

Coined as the “Heart of Oklahoma,” Purcell is a charming community 40 minutes from Oklahoma City. Purcell boasts historic ties to the railroad industry and offers the Amtrak Heartland Flyer, routing from Fort Worth to Oklahoma City.

Purcell offers a wide variety of actives to fill your leisure hours. Step back in time with the McClain County Historical Society & Museum to explore antiques and artifacts dating back to when the Chickasaw people first inhabited the land. Stroll along Purcell’s preserved downtown and explore a mix of antique stores and modern boutiques.

For outdoor adventures, visit Chandler Park where a wide variety of outside entertainment is within walking distance. Hike up Red Hill for a scenic view of the South Canadian River. Hit the green with friends and a relaxing game of golf at the Brent Bruehl Memorial Golf Course. Enjoy a scenic drive over the James C. Nance Memorial Bridge. Cool off in the refreshing Purcell Public Pool.

After your escapades, stop at Jo’s Famous Pizza where you can order fresh Italian food loaded with generous servings of jalapeños, pepperoni, Italian sausage, chicken and even hot links and shrimp. Enjoy Oklahoma-home-cooked favorites at Sonny’s Café. For authentic flavor and friendly atmosphere, indulge in some sizzling fajitas at Los Dos Amigos. Purcell’s diverse eateries satisfy any appetite.

Purcell’s community goes all-out during the holidays with a drive-thru park lighting display, Lights from the Heart, and the Heart of Oklahoma Parade of Lights. In September, the community gathers to enjoy the Heartland Classic Car and Bike Show. In August, the Loose Caboose Festival attracts shoppers with its vendors’ sidewalk booths.

Thirty minutes south of Oklahoma City, Newcastle is a historic town bursting with urban flair and growth.

Newcastle is a hot spot for free live entertainment. Weekly concerts bring the community together for exciting performances at Newcastle Casino. The Newcastle Downtown farmers market offers exhibits, entertainment and contests along with fresh product grown from the local Newcastle Fair Barn. Family owned and operated, TG Farms, has something for the whole family, from an old-fashioned general store to a petting zoo.

Dinning in Newcastle satisfies any palate. Authentic Mexican restaurants like La Luna Mexican Café or Carlito's Café in Newcastle, pride themselves on their made-from-scratch dishes from enchiladas and fajitas to tacos, tamales, burritos, nachos, quesadillas and more.
