ADA, Okla. – The Chickasaw Nation and East Central University (ECU) are offering an award-winning, one-of-a-kind summer program for students who have completed ninth through twelfth grades.

Oklahoma Business Week (OBW) immerses creative and motivated high school students into the world of business.

Students selected will learn from community business leaders the mechanics of business operations, from product development to marketing.

Successful executives and community leaders will teach students professional business concepts in a variety of workshops.

Rhett Laubach, owner of YourNextSpeaker, LLC, will address students. As a professional speaker, leadership trainer, author and presentations coach, Laubach will provide students with a motivating presentation on leadership.

Rick McMurtrey, area director of the Small Business Development Center for the University of Georgia, will also present to the students. McMurtrey is a 1980 ECU graduate. He spent 20 years as a Sonic Drive In franchisee and 13 years at Southwestern Bell Corporation.

Steve Hahn, president of AT&T Oklahoma, will lend his expertise. Hahn has been involved with AT&T through many different positions and aspects. Before becoming the president of AT&T Oklahoma, he was president of AT&T Kansas.

Not only do students learn valuable business skills, they also network with their peers, make friends and get a peek into college life while staying on the ECU campus in the dorms.

Students compete to win scholarships, laptop computers and other prizes.

They will showcase skills learned during the week at a trade show, which gives the student-run companies the opportunity to set up booths and pitch their ideas to “investors.” Teams will create products and learn how to advertise them by making their own commercials.

A separate part of the competition pits students against each other in building and racing cardboard boats in the Business Week Regatta.

The camp will take place Sunday, June 4, through Thursday, June 8. Registration is now underway and will continue until May 1. The registration fee to attend the camp is $200, meals and evening social activities are included.
