Honor the heart of your family this Mother’s Day weekend at Ishki' Day, a joyful celebration recognizing the incredible mothers, grandmothers and great-grandmothers shaping families and communities.
The Chickasaw Cultural Center presents, “Ishki' Day: Celebrate Mom,” 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., May 10, at 867 Cooper Memorial Drive in Sulphur, Oklahoma.
In the Chickasaw language, ishki' means “mother.” As a historically matrilineal society, women and mothers have long been revered as leaders, nurturers and knowledge keepers within the Chickasaw Nation. This special event is a tribute to their strength and love.
During the event, mothers will receive free admission to the Chikasha Poya Exhibit Center, as well as discounts in the Aachompa' Gift Shop. Make-and-take activities, plant giveaways and complimentary refreshments will add to the festivities.
Whether celebrating your own ishki' or honoring the legacy of past ancestors, join the Chickasaw Cultural Center for a day of culture, connection and maternal appreciation.
