DURANT, Okla. -- The Chickasaw Nation will host a unique, old-fashioned Christmas event including horse and buggy rides, ornament crafting, holiday music, storytelling, snacks and blacksmithing demonstrations 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 16, at Fort Washita, 3348 state Highway 199.

The event is open to the public at no charge.

Santa and Mrs. Claus plan to visit the festivities at Fort Washita, which is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

Available snacks will include hot chocolate, apple cider, coffee and Christmas cookies. Hot dogs, chips and drinks will be served from noon to 1 p.m.

Fort Washita is near Lake Texoma, 13 miles east of Madill and 12 miles west of Durant on state Highway 199.
