Chickasaw Seniors Golf Club will host its inaugural golf tournament June 20 at Lake Murray Golf Resort, 2673 Lodge Road, Ardmore, Oklahoma. The tournament was scheduled for May, but excessive rainfall forced the club to move the date back.

“We have worked hard over the last year to get everything into place,” M.K. “Sonny” Larman said. “The club is for Chickasaw elders, 60 years old and older. Spouses are welcome to participate as well. Membership currently stands at approximately 30, and more are welcome to join and play.”

Larman, along with fellow Chickasaw citizens Greg Veitch, George Taylor, David Keel and Jan Baird, serve on the board of directors for the new club.

“We are dedicated to playing on golf courses located within the Chickasaw Nation treaty territory,” Larman said. “It is a way for us to contribute to our communities and enjoy 18 holes of golf within the Chickasaw Nation.”

At the June 20 tournament, club members will pay $30, which includes green fees and golf cart. The tournament will be a 4-person “scramble” format, according to Larman. It is a favorite among golfers. Each player plays a shot, and the best shot is determined by the group. The team then hits from where the best shot landed until the hole is completed.

Chickasaw elders and spouses are welcome to play, and the board requests interested participants to alert them soon so accommodations may be planned by the host golf course.

To participate, board members can be reached by phone. Larman may be reached at (405) 664-8906, Veitch at (405) 609-9550, Taylor at (405) 639-9755, Keel at (405) 219-2334 or Baird at (405) 258-8007.
