ADA, Okla. – The Chickasaw Press spring reception will take place 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 24, at the Ada Community Center, 700 N. Mississippi.

Chickasaw Press and White Dog Press authors will be available during the reception to sign books. Children’s books such as the Chickasaw Adventure comic books and the books created at the Holisso Ikbi “Book Creation” Camp will be available for free.

The reception will include a silent auction to benefit the Vinnie May “Sadie” Humes Memorial Fund. The Vinnie May “Sadie” Humes Memorial Fund is used to encourage Chickasaws to learn and teach their native language.

Chickasaw Press released its newest titles in September 2017 including “Constant Fires,” by Rebecca Hatcher Travis and “Good Night, Trilobite,” by Steve Vanlandingham.

“Constant Fires” is the second collection of poems from Travis and brings readers to a deeper understanding of the Chickasaw people and Native perspective. The collection includes 60 original poems organized into four sections.

“Good Night, Trilobite” is a story about Tony the trilobite and his friends, Becky the brachiopod and Bryan the bryozoan, who lived 415 million years ago on the sea floor of what would one day be the Chickasaw Nation.

“Piominko: Chickasaw Leader,” by Thomas W. Cowger and Mitch Caver was also introduced in 2017. It tells the story of a Native American leader whose unwavering dedication in the face of monumental challenges proved crucial to the survival of two nations—his and the United States.

Coinciding with the reception, the spring sale will take place 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, May 25, at the Chickasaw Press, 1020 N. Mississippi Ave. All merchandise will be 25 percent off.
