TISHOMINGO, Okla. -- The Chickasaw Nation Capitol will host a loom beading arts and crafts class 1-3 p.m., Saturday, July 8, at 411 W. Ninth St.

The event is open to the public at no charge. Class size is limited and registration is required.

The group will cover basic concepts and techniques. They will also dig into the history of beadwork in the Chickasaw culture.

Chickasaws and other Southeastern tribes incorporated items like glass beads into their culture after European contact. The practice of crafting beaded objects or adding beads to other objects continues today.

In this class, students will use a loom to create their own beaded art.

For more information or to register, contact the Chickasaw Nation Capitol at 580-371-9835.
