The Chickasaw Nation is offering tax filing services to qualifying income - eligible individuals and families at no charge through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. The filing period will continue through April 15.
“Our program provides tax preparation services at no charge to community members who make less than $67,000 and are within scope of service,” Travis Gregg, program manager, said.
To receive tax preparation assistance, participants must complete the online application and upload all necessary documents. A VITA team member will prepare the return. Once complete, a certified tax reviewer will contact the client to review the return.
Both in-person and virtual services will be available by phone or Zoom meeting.
“Our volunteers have years of tax preparation experience. They can answer most tax-related questions,” Gregg said. “Our participants never pay for our service. We e-file both federal and state portions of the tax return.”
Clients must provide a government issued photo identification card, Social Security cards for the filer and all dependents, tax documentation such W - 2s and 1099s, as well as any documents pertaining to completing the tax returns.
It is recommended that new VITA clients provide last year’s tax return, as well as a voided check for potential direct deposits from state and federal refunds.
“This will be the 16th year the Chickasaw Nation has provided the VITA program to communities,” Gregg said.
The VITA office is located at 1630 E. Beverly St. in Ada, Oklahoma. Limited availability for inperson meetings is available Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Schedule F and rental income are considered out of scope for VITA assistance.
