Press Release

Release Date: June 26, 2018

by Chickasaw Nation Media Relations Office

  • For July, “GetFresh!” public cooking classes will feature the Bean Boot Camp series, where participants will learn how to make dishes much like the one pictured.

The Chickasaw Nation teaches healthy meal preparation with the “Get Fresh!” series of entertaining cooking shows, open to the public at no charge, at Chickasaw Nation Nutrition Services sites in Ardmore, Purcell, Duncan and Ada, as well as Ada’s Family Life Center.

Shows consist of live, interactive cooking demonstrations led by specialists who sprinkle in bits of healthy knowledge as they go. Their nutrition education is science-based and grounded in the United States Department of Agriculture's “MyPlate” program.

When the dish is done, attendees get to taste the fruits of their labor.

On the table with these culinary classes are new recipes and skills meant to boost a family’s everyday eating experiences.

In July, attendees can expect to learn about and consume dishes revolving around brunch time and beans. For brunch, there is breakfast berry pizza as well as avocado and tomato bruschetta. Bean-centric dishes will include tuna and white bean salad or cowboy beans.
