The Chickasaw Nation is hosting its annual Recycling Day, 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Friday, Nov. 18, at the Chickasaw Nation Community Center, 700 N. Mississippi, Ada.
The event is open to the public at no charge.
Items accepted include electronic waste, such as non-working and unwanted electronics, tires, Styrofoam, cardboard, aluminum, tin cans, paper and plastic labeled #1 and #2. There is a five-box limit on paper.
The Chickasaw Nation is offering the event in conjunction with America Recycling Day, the only nationally recognized day dedicated to promoting recycling.
Benefits of recycling are numerous, including reducing the amount of waste sent to landfills, conservation of natural resources and increased economic security by using domestic source materials, according to the Environmental Protection Agency.
Recycling also saves energy, supports American manufacturing and creates well-paying jobs in the recycling and manufacturing industries.

Reuse – Recycle
Since 2010, the Chickasaw Nation ReUse Center, 2205 N. Broadway, Ada, has played a role in keeping reusable materials from ending up in landfills.
Open to the public year-round, the ReUse Center offers clothing, housewares and building materials at no charge. It is a public service available to everyone.
The ReUse Center serves a dual purpose, Chickasaw Nation Environmental Services Director Phillip Cravatt said.
“We are protecting our environment by preventing solid waste from going to a landfill while improving our community by providing useful discarded items to people who need them,” Cravatt said.
“Our goal to build a culture where everyone realizes we are part of our environment and are entrusted to protect it for future generations.”
In addition to individual donations, businesses, civic and community organizations may drop off used building materials, office equipment, electronics, housewares and furniture.
The Chickasaw Nation ReUse Center hours of operation are 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays, with special days of operation for Chickasaw citizens the first and third Monday of every month.
