Press Release

Release Date: July 21, 2021
by Chickasaw Nation Media Relations Office

Chickasaw Nation Legislators unanimously voted to extend the ballot deadline for the Chickasaw Nation general election during a special session Tuesday, July 20.

In a 10-0-3 vote, a resolution was passed to extend the original July 27 deadline to Aug. 3, 2021. Legislators Toby Perkins and Nancy Elliott, both of Ada, and Shana Tate Hammond, Ardmore, abstained from the vote. All three face challengers in the general election.

Chickasaw Nation Election Secretary Rita Loder requested the extension after learning there were technical issues with the distribution of ballots. While ballots were scheduled to be mailed to registered voters July 8, 2021, some ballots have been delayed.

Under Article VIII, Section 3 of the Chickasaw Constitution, Chickasaw Nation Governor Bill Anoatubby called for Chickasaw Nation legislators to meet in special session to consider the extension.

Ms. Loder asks voters to complete and return ballots as soon as they are received.

Ballots must be returned to the Chickasaw Nation Election Commission no later than 10:30 a.m. Aug. 3, 2021. No hand delivered ballots will be accepted.

The Chickasaw Nation Election Commission shall conduct and supervise the ballot counting beginning at 11 a.m. Aug. 3, 2021, at the Chickasaw Community Center in Ada. Results of the elections shall be announced the same day.
