The Chickasaw Heritage Series is a documentary project initiative from Chickasaw Nation Productions designed to inform, educate and entertain audiences about the resilient and persevering spirit of the Chickasaw Nation.
“Pearl”
Set in 1920s rural Oklahoma, “Pearl” is based on the remarkable true story of Chickasaw aviatrix, Pearl Carter Scott — the youngest licensed pilot in American history.
Mentored by world-renowned aviator Wiley Post, Pearl first pilots a plane at the age of 12 and becomes a commercial pilot and local celebrity before she reaches adulthood. In this 1-hour, 46-minute feature film, Pearl finds love, becomes a wife and mother and her two greatest passions collide.
“Bearer of the Morning”
The story follows the life of Mary “Te Ata” Thompson Fisher as she embraces the Chickasaw tradition of storytelling and transforms herself into the world-renowned performer, Te Ata.
By studying and performing traditional First American stories, Te Ata worked to help overturn negative stereotypes and advocate for the preservation of Indigenous American cultures. Te Ata kept her Chickasaw heritage close to her heart while sharing the unique story and spirit of the Chickasaw people.
In this 1-hour documentary, discover how this dynamic Chickasaw woman successfully navigated the social, geographic and cultural distances to become one of the most successful First American performers in history.
“Pearl Carter Scott: On Top of the World”
“Pearl Carter Scott: On Top of the World,” complements the award-winning film, “Pearl.” The documentary shares the life story of the late Pearl Carter Scott. Whereas the feature champions Pearl’s accomplishments in aviation, the documentary highlights her achievements later in life. The daughter of a successful businessman in Marlow, Oklahoma, Pearl Carter Scott was a dedicated and proud citizen of the Chickasaw Nation. She aspired, until her passing in 2005, to do “whatever is necessary to help my fellow Chickasaws.”
The 30-minute documentary features interviews with Pearl Carter Scott and her family members.
