SULPHUR, Okla. — Young Chickasaw women interested in learning more about the Chickasaw Princess Program are invited to attend Princess Day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 25, at the Chickasaw Cultural Center.
The event is open to the public at no charge and is designed primarily for Chickasaw Princess pageant applicants and prospective program participants. It also offers Chickasaw Cultural Center visitors a unique opportunity to learn about the role Chickasaw royalty plays in promoting and preserving Chickasaw culture.
Throughout the day, attendees will have opportunities to learn more about the pageant process, connect with former Chickasaw royalty and experience aspects of Chickasaw culture central to the program.
Activities include a regalia maker meet-and-greet, a stomp dance demonstration, a panel discussion featuring former Chickasaw princesses, a simple beaded earring class, crown-making activities and a special screening of “The Princess Diaries” in the Anoli' Theater. Lunch and a tea party will also be provided.
Princess Day offers participants an opportunity to ask questions, gain insight into serving as Chickasaw royalty and build relationships with others interested in representing the Chickasaw Nation.
The Chickasaw Princess Program is a long-standing, annual tradition that selects young leaders to serve as Chickasaw royalty, exemplifying the servant leadership core value while carrying out the mission to enhance the overall quality of life of the Chickasaw people.
The program provides young Chickasaw women with opportunities to serve as cultural ambassadors while promoting Chickasaw history, language and traditions at more than 40 events spanning several states through the duration of their reign.
