Chickasaw Artist Brent Greenwood, Dan Worcester, Joanna Underwood and Joshua Hinson are featured in a statewide traveling art exhibit sponsored by the American Indian Cultural Center Museum titled “The State of Being Native American.”

The exhibit features art from a collection of 23 contemporary artists to be tentatively presented in Durant, Miami and Oklahoma City as well as its current location, Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, Okla.

“The beauty of this project is it gives us a wonderful opportunity to reach different regions of the state,” said Shoshana Wasserman, consultant for the American Indian Cultural Center and Museum. “The community is taking ownership in Native American art.”Brown Pot

Both community members and artist are excited about the statewide tour.

“I thought it was great that Oklahoma Indian artists were getting a chance to show their work at galleries across our home state. People will get a chance to experience each artist’s view of what Indian art means to them whether it's contemporary or traditional,” Chickasaw Artist Joanna Underwood said.

The exhibit will be located in the art department of SWOSU until March 9.
