The Oklahoma Blood Institute is asking for help to ensure an adequate blood supply for the upcoming holiday weekend.

OBI is especially encouraging people with Type O blood to donate this week. Type O blood is called universal because it can be transfused into anyone in a medical emergency, regardless of that person’s blood type.

The Ada area OBI donor center is located at 900 N. Mississippi. For more information or to make an appointment call (580) 436-0384, toll free at (800) 858-8296, or visit

The Oklahoma Blood Institute (OBI) is a state-wide not-for-profit blood center providing blood to patients in more than 110 hospitals in Oklahoma and North Central Texas. OBI maintains regional donor centers in Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Lawton, Enid, Ardmore, Ada and Ponca City.

If you donate blood, you may sign in with the Carl Albert Hospital trust plan and it will help cut usage charges for the hospital. For every five units donated on behalf of CNHS, the hospital receives one unit free.
