During summer, First American youth can earn work experience, gain leadership skills and explore future careers with the Toksali SMART program. The Toksali (to work) SMART (Successful Mindsets with Attitude and Readiness for Tomorrow) program helps First American students aged 14 to 21 develop confidence and workplace skills in a real-world job environment.
Participants will explore career choices while learning budgeting and life skills, productive work behaviors, leadership development and more. Level II and III participants will have on-the-job training and mentoring related to their future goals and interests.
Eligibility requirements:
- First-time applicant: Chickasaw citizen
- Returning applicants: Open to any member of a federally recognized tribe who participated in 2019 or prior, with Chickasaw preference given
- Between the ages of 14 and 21 before beginning employment training
- Reside within the Chickasaw Nation
- The deadline to apply is Feb. 28.
