Chickasaw Nation Anolí Creative Writing Contest

COVID-19 UPDATES

Out of an abundance of caution and to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus, or COVID-19, certain Chickasaw Nation events, classes, facilities, etc., will be postponed, canceled or closed. Open to Chickasaw citizens in grades sixth through 12th and ages 18 and older, this free contest allows writers to exercise and share their creativity. Anoli' is a Chickasaw word that means, “to tell.” All submitted works must be original. Poetry and short story entries will be judged on artistic form and creativity. Essay entries will be judged on how well they respond to the prompt. Winners receive cash prizes.

There are three divisions:

  • Division I: grades sixth-eighth
  • Division II: grades ninth-12th
  • Division III: adults 18 and older

Categories (one entry per category is allowed):

  • Poetry (64 lines or less)
  • Short story (1,000 – 2,000 words)
  • Essay (1,000 words or less) (must respond to one of the prompts below)
    • 2022 Prompts:
      • Compare and contrast your life as a Chickasaw to that of your Chickasaw ancestors’ lives.
      • What do you feel is the most important event in Chickasaw history?

The deadline to submit entries is Sunday, July 17, 2022, at 11:59 p.m. CST.
