  • Art is always on the walls and in the showcases of the ARTesian Gallery and Studios, open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

  • Fernando Padilla, San Felipe Pueblo and Navajo mixed media artist, will teach a jewelry making class 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 4, at the ARTesian Gallery and Studios, 100 W. Muskogee St.

  • Students in the Aug. 4 class at the ARTesian Gallery and Studios will learn the methods used to craft wire-wrapped jewelry like these necklaces.

SULPHUR, Okla. – Mixed media artist Fernando Padilla will teach methods for making wire-wrapped jewelry utilizing copper wire and stone, 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 4, at the ARTesian Gallery and Studios, 100 W. Muskogee St.

The Chickasaw Nation is hosting the classes by the renowned San Felipe Pueblo and Navajo artist.

Designs and creations with metals such as copper, sterling silver and gold wires are the foundations upon which the artist captures stones, gemstones and various other objects.

Since 1987, Padilla has consistently produced award-winning artworks that have captivated admirers and collectors.

He has established himself as an internationally-renowned artist by winning awards at the Santa Fe Indian Market, Red Earth Festival and many other shows and exhibitions.

Padilla has mastered several mediums including painting, sculpting, wood carving, photography, jewelry and stained glass art. He currently lives in Oklahoma.

The $25 cost of the class includes the required materials, tools and supplies.

On display at the ARTesian Gallery and Studios are the works of weaver Margaret Roach Wheeler, illustrator Shawn Harjo, painter Billy Hensley, jeweler Juanita Hanna, gourd artist Donna Welch and woodworker Vicki Somers.

Five separate studio spaces are also occupied by various artists. Joanna Underwood Blackburn, James Blackburn, Margaret Wheeler and Patta LT are current resident artists who work and sell out of the ARTesian’s studio space.

The ARTesian Gallery and Studios is open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
