The health and safety of Chickasaws, employees and patrons is our main priority. As the coronavirus, or COVID-19, spreads globally and cases rise in the U.S., some Chickasaw Nation events, classes, facilities, etc., will be postponed, closed or canceled out of an abundance of caution.

Foster Grandparents Program

COVID-19 UPDATES

Out of an abundance of caution and to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus, or COVID-19, certain Chickasaw Nation events, classes, facilities, etc., will be postponed, canceled or closed. The Foster Grandparents Program was created by the Corporation for National and Community Service and established in the Chickasaw Nation in 2015.

Foster Grandparents in the Chickasaw Nation Program serve as mentors, offering guidance, support and education to youth in the Chickasaw Nation Child Development Centers, Head Starts and area public schools.

Activities include providing one-on-one attention to children, helping them learn about Chickasaw language and culture, literacy development and math and science tutoring all designed to support school readiness and academic success for youth.

Eligibility

  • Age 55 or older
  • Reside in the Chickasaw Nation 13-county service area
  • Modest income

Established in 1993, the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) is a federal agency that engages more than 5 million Americans in service through its core programs Senior Corps, AmeriCorps and the Social Innovation Fund and leads President Obama’s national call to service initiative, United We Serve.
