COVID-19 Technology Grant for Students

The Chickasaw Nation COVID-19 Technology Grant for Students provides technology assistance to Chickasaw students in grades K-12 to support technology needs in education. Eligible Chickasaw students or a custodial parent or legal guardian of a Chickasaw minor will be awarded a one-time assistance payment. Chickasaw citizens who previously received assistance under the COVID-19 Distance Learning Package will not qualify for the COVID-19 Technology Grant for Students program.

Eligible Chickasaw students may be awarded a one-time assistance payment of $500 per citizen.

Eligibility

Enrolled in K-12
Chickasaw citizens that have received unemployment benefits or have been unemployed at any point in time between March 17, 2020, and the date of application.
Chickasaw citizens that live in a household with an annual income less than $75,000 for single or married filing separate, less than $112,500 for head of household or less than $150,000 for married filing jointly or surviving spouses.
Chickasaw citizens that live in a household which experienced housing instability or risk of homelessness at any point in time between March 17, 2020, and date of application.
Chickasaw citizens that live in a household which experienced food insecurity at any point in time between March 17, 2020, and date of application.
Chickasaw citizens that have experienced
- loss or reduction of income or employment
  - The citizen or a household member experienced economic harm caused by income or job loss/income reduction;
  - The citizen or a household member has been furloughed or their place of employment has closed;
  - The citizen or a household member has otherwise experienced a reduction in hours of work or reduction in income in an amount of $2,000 or more (including self-employed);
  - The citizen or a household member has lost child or spousal support;
  - The citizen or a household member has been unable to find employment due to COVID-19;
  - The citizen or a household member has had to undergo additional job training, including online job training, to gain employment;
  - The citizen or a household member is unable to make ends meet or has had to use credit cards or loans to meet routine expenses; or
  - The citizen or a household member has experienced the death of a household income earner.

  - The citizen or a household member has experienced daycare or school closure, been required to shift to distance learning, or has otherwise had educational opportunities impacted, resulting in reduced educational opportunities including any of the following examples:
    1. The citizen or a household member has previously or is currently required to stay home to care for children due to closure of day care and/or school;
    2. The citizen or a household member has previously or is currently required to stay home to care for children due to distance learning;
    3. The citizen or a household member is a college student directly impacted by a change in school circumstances;
    4. The citizen or a household member has foregone engaging in cultural, religious, or other social events that have negatively impacted cultural knowledge transfer; or
  - The citizen’s household utility bills have increased, including an increase caused by spending more time living and working at home; or the citizen or a household member has had trouble making household utility bill payments.
- change in market circumstances
  - The citizen or a household member has had an increase in expenses due to COVID-19 (i.e., food, child care, medical bills, PPE, transportation, etc.), including costs resulting from inflation or delivery costs for food or goods;
  - The citizen or a household member has added technology expenses, including equipment, supplies or internet costs for remote work, distance learning, telehealth or social distancing;
  - The citizen or a household member has otherwise had additional household expenses resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic; or
  - The citizen or a household member has foregone engaging in cultural, religious or other social events that have negatively impacted their ability to engage in traditional marketplaces and procure or sell goods and wares, such as traditional regalia, artwork, jewelry, traditional food items or items of ceremonial significance.
- or due to medical needs
  - The citizen or a household member is unwilling or unable to participate in their previous employment due to high risk of severe illness from COVID-19;
  - The citizen or a household member has had an increase in medical expenses directly or indirectly due to COVID-19, such as expenses for medical supplies, prescriptions, doctor visits, telehealth, mental health or behavioral health care, or health insurance;
  - The citizen or a household member has forgone engaging in cultural, religious, familial or other social events which have negatively impacted their mental or behavioral well-being;
  - The citizen or a household member has previously or is currently required to stay at home to care for a household member(s) with COVID-19;
  - The citizen or a household member has been diagnosed with COVID-19;
  - The citizen or a household member has been required to quarantine due to COVID-19 exposure;
  - The citizen or a household member has had to take off work or has incurred travel expenses (such as fuel or vehicle wear and tear) in order to obtain COVID-19 testing, vaccination or other related care;
  - The citizen or a household member is considered high-risk due to an underlying health condition or age;
  - The citizen or a household member has delayed procuring necessary medical care as a result of the COVID-19 public health emergency; or
  - The citizen or a household member has had to pay for funeral or burial expenses related to COVID-19.
