Abstinence Education

The Office of Strong Family Development (OSFD) offers abstinence education and training for youth and family members. Abstinence education is offered to adolescents in local junior high and high schools, as well as through numerous youth development groups operating in South central Oklahoma. Abstinence remains the only 100% effective method of birth control and prevention of sexually transmitted diseases.

Eligibility:

  • Native American, or
  • Chickasaw Nation employee, or
  • Anyone who directly influences the life of a Native American child

Other Information:

The certified abstinence educator is available during regular office hours for consultations with parents and adolescents. These private consultations can be used to learn effective ways for parents to talk to their child about the importance of abstinence. Family appointments can help to facilitate conversations between parents and their teen about living an abstinent lifestyle.
