The Chickasaw Nation will host art classes and exhibit reception at the ARTesian Gallery & Studios, 100 W. Muskogee St. Sulphur, Oklahoma.

Acrylics classes

Acrylic painting classes will be offered, July 5 and 12, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the ARTesian Gallery & Studios. Classes will be taught by award-winning Chickasaw artist Mary Ruth Barnes.

Barnes specializes in acrylics, watercolor and more. She has been featured in galleries throughout the United States. In addition to receiving several awards for her art, Mrs. Barnes was named the Chickasaw Nation 2015 Dynamic Woman of the Year.

An enrollment fee of $10 includes instruction and materials. Pre-registration is encouraged. Class size is limited.

Artist reception for E. Dee Tabor

An artist exhibit reception is scheduled for Saturday, July 8, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the ARTesian Gallery and Studios. The reception will showcase the jewelry of Chickasaw artist, E. Dee Tabor, who is a Tulsa resident.

Tabor creates unique hand-crafted jewelry using a variety of natural stones, glass and metals.

The exhibit featuring Tabor’s work will be on display from July 8-Sept. 15.

The event is open to the public at no charge.

Pop art painting with acrylics&

The Chickasaw Nation will host an acrylic painting class “Pop Art,” Friday, July 14, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the ARTesian Gallery and Studios. Class will be taught by Cherokee artist Tonya Lowrance.

Lowrance works with a variety of media including watercolor, acrylics, graphite and various printmaking methods. She will teach participants to become familiar with the pop art movement, color theory, the diversity of acrylic and how to properly finish a piece for display.

An enrollment fee of $25 includes instruction and materials. Pre-registration is encouraged. Class size is limited.

Silk painting workshop

Two silk painting workshops will be conducted, July 15 and 22, at the ARTesian Gallery & Studios. Classes will be taught by Choctaw artist Patta Butcher.

Butcher has been a professional artist for more than 30 years and has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Oklahoma.

Workshops will be split into two sessions for different skill levels. Morning sessions, 10 a.m. to noon, will cover beginner’s techniques. Afternoon sessions, 1 to 3 p.m., will guide intermediate students who have taken the beginner class.

Participants will learn the process of applying dyes on silk fabric using a fusion of contemporary original design concepts and traditional Native American motifs.
