OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- The Chickasaw Nation will offer a Chickasaw language class, open to the public at no charge 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 5, at Remington Park in Oklahoma City, 1 Remington Place. All skill levels are welcome.

The class will include a general introduction to the language, useful phrases and information about the Rosetta Stone Chickasaw program.

The Chickasaw language was the primary language of Chickasaw people for hundreds of years, passed on to new generations orally. It is viewed as a gift from the ancestors.

Several programs and services have been established by the Chickasaw Nation to revitalize the language. To learn more about available programs and services, visit www.chickasaw.net/chickasawlanguage.

The Chickasaw Nation has planned monthly community classes for locations across south central and central Oklahoma all year. Class topics include language, dancing, pottery, finger weaving, beading and painting.

A beaded collar class will be offered Oct. 26 in Pauls Valley. Upcoming classes are also planned for Purcell and Ardmore.
