ADA, Okla. – The Chickasaw Press is releasing two new books and a children’s app this spring at a special reception 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, May 11, at the Ada Community Center, 700 N. Mississippi.

New titles will be introduced beginning at 11 a.m. with the book signing and reception starting at 11:30 a.m. The Chickasaw Press and the White Dog Press authors will be available during the reception to sign books.

The reception will include a silent auction to benefit the Vinnie May Humes Memorial Fund.

“Piominko: Chickasaw Leader” by Thomas W. Cowger and Mitch Caver, will be unveiled by the Chickasaw Press.

Piominko was one of the most important Native American leaders of the 18th century. The book outlines his achievements and impact while recalling the period before, during and after the Revolutionary War from the point of view of the Native people it affected.

The White Dog Press is releasing “Jack and the Giant,” a new children’s book created by students at the 2016 Ikbi Holisso Book Creation Camp.

“Jack and the Giant” puts a Chickasaw spin on the classic children’s story “Jack and the Beanstalk.” This is a vividly illustrated free publication from the White Dog Press told through the use of puppets in both English and Chickasaw.

Also new is a “C is for Chickasaw” app based on the award-winning book “C is for Chickasaw” written by Wiley Barnes and illustrated by Aaron Long. The app enhances the original text with child-friendly interactive features, games and activities. Illustrations will come to life with engaging animation and sound effects while the narrator walks users through the book portion of the app. Digital coloring pages, puzzles and a memory game round out the other in-app activities.

Along with the new titles, White Dog Press will release the “Ilimpa'chi': We’re Gonna Eat” by JoAnn Ellis and Vicki Penner, in softcover edition. Recipes, reminiscences and lessons in Chickasaw life are the main ingredients of this book.

Coinciding with the new releases, the spring sale will take place 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday, May 12, at the Chickasaw Press, 1315 Hoppe Blvd. All merchandise will be 20 percent off.
