  • October “Get Fresh!” public cooking classes will feature the “Brunch Time 2.0” and “What’s in Your Pantry” series, where participants will learn how to make dishes much like this bowl of granola.

ADA, Okla. -- The Chickasaw Nation teaches healthy meal preparation with the “Get Fresh!” series of entertaining cooking shows, open to the public at no charge at Chickasaw Nation Nutrition Services sites in Ardmore, Purcell, Duncan and Ada, as well as the Family Life Center in Ada.

Shows consist of live, interactive cooking demonstrations led by specialists who sprinkle in bits of healthy knowledge.

The nutrition education presentation is science-based and grounded in the United States Department of Agriculture's “MyPlate” program.

On the table with these culinary classes are new recipes and skills meant to boost a family’s everyday eating experiences.

When the dish is done, attendees get to taste the fruits of their labor.

In October, attendees can expect to learn about and consume corn chowder, sweet potato biscuits, breakfast quesadillas, veggie pizza bites and peanut butter granola. These dishes were planned around the themes “What’s in Your Pantry?,” and “Brunch Time 2.0.”
