“TeamBirth” Initiative Offers New Approach for Patients

Date: September 16, 2024

The Chickasaw Nation is creating opportunities for families to grow safely and with dignity. The “TeamBirth” initiative has been implemented at Chickasaw Nation Medical Center (CNMC) for pregnant women and their families.

“TeamBirth” was designed to create better communication and collaboration between the mother, their support team and the health care team before and after delivery. The initiative provides a solid structure for effective communication and shared decision making using team huddles and visual “TeamBirthing” boards.

The structured team huddle includes the patient, support team and health care team members. It allows for discussion of and mutual participation in care plans, patient preferences and delivery expectations. The birthing boards show a visual representation of the team members, care plan and stages of the birthing experience.

The objective is to empower the patient to communicate with their support and health care teams, create a personalized birthing experience and improve the overall patient experience.

Patients at CNMC can talk with their provider for more information about “TeamBirth” and creating a personalized birthing plan. Visit ChickasawNationHealth.net/WomensClinic or call (580) 436-3980 for more information about the services offered.
