Chickasaw Summer Arts Academy

Aspiring young artists are immersed in an exploration of various artistic fields, career preparatory programming and student-oriented skill development. The academy provides an opportunity for students to learn about contemporary and traditional Chickasaw and Southeastern First American art in a variety of mediums that inspires exploration of the artistic process in writing, performing and visual arts. Special equipment is not required. This camp is the best fit for campers who show interest in the arts, honing a craft, performance or who wish to expand their artistic portfolios.

Chikashshaat Hoochokoshkomo (Chickasaws are Playing) Lacrosse/Stickball Camp

Stickball camp educates youth ages 8-18 on the history and mechanics of the traditional First American game. Attendees will also learn the fundamentals of lacrosse, rotating between stickball and lacrosse drills and participating in exhibition games.

The Chickasaw Nation STEM Homeschool Academy provides extracurricular enrichment activities based in science, technology, engineering and math for students who attend school at home or online.

Classes take place weekly, September through May, at the Chickasaw Nation STEM Academy in Ada, Oklahoma. Additional details will be provided upon acceptance.

Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) are recognized as one of the biggest unaddressed issues in children’s lives today. The NEAR Science Training explores how to build resilience in children.

The NEAR (neurobiology, epigenetics, ACEs and resilience) training explores how life experiences impact our biological nervous system. It takes a closer look into the data revealed by the ACEs study and teaches best practices to foster positive growth.

Artesian Arts Festival

The Artesian Arts Festival is an annual cultural event featuring original First American art, music, dance, food and family-friendly entertainment. Visitors can browse an art market displaying jewelry, sculpture, beadwork, paintings, basketry, metalwork, textiles, pottery and more. Indigenous dance demonstrations, children's activities and elders' arts and crafts are also available. Any member of a federally recognized tribe is welcome to apply as an artist vendor. Accepted artists may submit an entry in one of more than 20 art categories for the competition.

Located on the beautiful Artesian Plaza in downtown Sulphur, Oklahoma, the Artesian Arts Festival is nestled among the Artesian Hotel, Casino and Spa, the ARTesian Gallery & Studios, the Chickasaw National Recreation Area and numerous boutiques and shops.

Chikasha Ittafama (Chickasaw Reunion)

Chikasha Ittafama (Chickasaw Reunion) is a two-day celebration of Chickasaw culture, traditions and fellowship at the Kullihoma Grounds east of Ada, Oklahoma.

Activities include cornstalk shoot competitions, loksi' races, horseshoes, a traditional meal, chunkey, artistic and educational demonstrations and more, concluding with a stomp dance.

Ittafama Ithana Chickasaw Historical Society Conference

The annual Chickasaw Historical Society Conference, Ittafama Ithana, will take place at OKANA Resort and Indoor Waterpark in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. This conference encourages cultural involvement and historical awareness to preserve, promote and protect Chickasaw history and culture.

The conference theme is “Weaving the Past Into the Present.” Presentations will be available in-person and via Zoom. More optional activities are available the day before the conference for in-person attendees.

Chickasaw Historical Society members receive free conference admission. Registration is $35 for non-members, which includes a one-year membership to the Chickasaw Historical Society. The registration deadline is April 20, with limited in-person seating available.

Yaakni’ Inaalhpisaat Chokma “The Nation’s Laws are Good” Judicial Camp

Students will be led through various tribal court procedures by experts and lawyers, who will also help them get familiar with the fundamentals of the three branches of the Chickasaw Nation government and several substantive areas of Chickasaw tribal law.

Nursing Camp

Campers will gain hands-on experience through simulated health care events involving medical manikins and employee actors. The curriculum covers the use of medical equipment, such as hospital beds and vital sign machines, and introduces campers to medical supplies and tools.

This camp takes place at the Toksálikat Ithana building at the Chickasaw Nation Medical Center in Ada, Oklahoma.

Chikasha Alabinachi (Chickasaw Cultural Camp)

During this two-day camp, children ages 8-14 will participate in traditional games, stomp dances, crafts and other activities while learning the Chickasaw language.

Chickasaw youth, children of Chickasaw families and children of Chickasaw Nation employees are eligible to apply.

Registration deadline is Aug. 31.

This camp is located at the Chickasaw Cultural Center in Sulphur, Oklahoma. Meals are provided. Transportation is provided for the Ada, Ardmore and Tishomingo areas.

This two-day clinic focuses on enhancing cheerleading abilities based on individual skill sets. Coaches will lead instruction in motion and rhythm, jumps, stunts and overall health and fitness.

Professionals in environmental fields cover ecological topics such as water and air pollution, recycling, horticulture and wildlife in nontraditional classroom settings. This camp will demonstrate how Chickasaw people are connected to nature and the responsibility to preserve resources. Cultural components such as learning stomp dances, Chickasaw stories and language will also be included.

Fall Chokka-Chaffa
