About

CHIP provides rehabilitation of older Mutual Help homes over and above what maintenance is required of tenants in accordance with the policies and homebuyers’ agreements. It also provides rehabilitation to low rent developments as needed. In addition, CHIP provides grants for repairs of privately owned homes of low income Native Americans and emergency repairs of privately owned homes of Chickasaw citizens.

Required applications are available at the above address. An applicant can expect to find out within 10 business days if he/she qualifies for the program and will be placed on a waiting list. This service is restricted to the 14-county service area: southern portion of Bryan, Carter, Coal, Garvin, Grady, southern portion of Hughes, Jefferson, Johnston, Love, McClain, Marshall, Murray, Pontotoc and Stephens counties.

You Provide:

  • CDIB
  • Social Security cards of all household members
  • Income verification of all household members
  • Copy of warranty deed
  • Information and Privacy Act release form

Eligibility:

  • Native American with a Chickasaw preference
  • Low income (80% or lower U.S. Median Income)
  • No outstanding debt owed to the housing division or to the Chickasaw Nation
  • No engagement in drug-related criminal activity
  • Home must be the applicant’s primary residence

Housing Improvement Program (HIP)

The HIP program is administered pursuant to a contract with the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) and funds are transferred to the Chickasaw Nation Division of Housing as part of the Chickasaw Nation's self-governance compact.  HIP is available to all Native Americans within the program service area, and eligibility is determined according to a formula set by the BIA.  For more information contact housing development services at (580) 272-5400.

Chickasaw Housing Improvement Program (CHIP) Major

The former comprehensive grant program continues as CHIP Major.  CHIP Major provides rehabilitation to older Mutual Help homes over and above what maintenance is required of tenants in accordance with the Chickasaw Nation Division of Housing policies and homebuyer's agreements.  For more information, contact housing improvement services at (580) 272-5400.

Chickasaw Housing Improvement Program (CHIP) Minor

CHIP Minor provides grants and repairs of privately owned homes of low income Native Americans.  For more information, contact housing improvement services at (580) 421-8800.  For application contact housing management at (580) 421-8854.
