DancersIn manners and customs, the Chickasaw differed little from the Choctaw, although the Chickasaw were less sedentary and agriculturally minded. The Chickasaw were also more warlike in disposition, making them invaluable allies to the early United States government. The Chickasaw have never been known to have lost a battle, hence the unofficial motto of the Chickasaw Nation today: Unconquered and Unconquerable.

The tribe's traditional origin is the same as that of the Creek and Choctaw, and is given in the so-called "Creek Migration Legend." The traditional ceremonies, dances and language of the Chickasaw are still maintained as a matter of pride and historical interest, with classes being taught in Chickasaw language and tradition.

This Indian nation and its people have commingled both culturally and economically with the non-Indian society to a greater degree than many other Oklahoma tribes. The tribe is currently involved in economic development and other ventures with city, county and state levels of government, as well as with private enterprise.
