Program Details

The Chickasaw Nation Division of Arts and Humanities is offering classes in public speaking throughout the year to assist and encourage employees and others who normally avoid speaking before groups to learn how to be a better communicator. Classes are approximately four hours in length to ensure enough time for attendees to practice before their fellow classmates. Full participation by attendees is required.

  • One hour of class consists of discussion of skills needed for public speaking such as: Voice and diction, which covers projection, enunciation, articulation and correct use of a microphone; body language, which reveals how to project confidence, and nervous habits and how to break them.
  • Attendees’ speaking will occupy the remaining class time. Students will practice, using various handout materials and exercises, and are also videotaped to enable them to see and hear how they look and sound.

Each class is limited to no more than fifteen participants in order to ensure adequate discussion time and practice. Classes are taught in the Division of Arts and Humanities’ black box theatre.
