Chickasaw Nation Residents

This creative writing contest accepts submissions of original poetry, short stories or essays produced by Chickasaw citizens. Winners in each category and division receive a cash prize.

Applicants must be a Chickasaw citizen. Divisions are grades 6-8, grades 9-12 and adults over 18 years of age.

Program Details

Open to Chickasaw citizens in grades six-12 and ages 18 and older, this free contest allows writers to exercise and share their creativity. Anoli' is a Chickasaw word that means “to tell.” All submitted works must be original. Poetry and short story entries will be judged on artistic form and creativity. Essay entries will be judged on how well contestants respond to the prompt. Winners will receive cash prizes.

There are three divisions:

  • Division I: grades six-eight
  • Division II: grades nine-12
  • Division III: adults 18 and older

Categories (one entry per category is allowed):

  • Poetry (64 lines or less)
  • Short story (1,000-2,000 words)
  • Essay (1,000 words or less) (must respond to one of the prompts below)
